Gorgeous Desk

Woo hoo!!! My desk arrived today. I won it on ebay over the weekend and have been hanging out to see it "in the flesh". It has exceeded my expectations. My initial thoughts before viewing it were to paint it white, but now that I've seen it I don't know if I can bring myself to do it. The seller told me it was an antique and seemed a little annoyed that it had sold for such a small amount (can't say I shared her disappointment!!!) and I am really appreciating the worn looking timber with it's dings and ridges. Hmmmm, have to sleep on that one for a while.

Hi Ange - love the little retaining pieces along the back and sides - no more lost papers! Think it would look lovely white but I guess it depends where it's going to 'live'! By the way, I loved your photos yesterday - I do miss the manicured look - here they go for a more 'au naturel' theme apart from the municipal parks...! Hope you are getting some cooler days so you can revive a little..! Very best wishes, Susie x

I have painted a few of these and it's a looooooong job! Enjoy the dints and wood for a while first. You could try sanding it a bit which would lighten it some, then adding a clear wax finish. Works well too. Or - sanding the top, painting legs white and distressing! I promise that looks a treat also. Ciao for now!!

That is a hard one. I love its character as it is - but then I am biased towards leaving antiques in original condition. It will look great whatever you decide, Ange.

Ange great find. I would live with it as is for awhile and then decide to paint or not. Depends on where your going to put it in the house. Would look amazing white and heavily destressed bringing lots of the character of the timber through. What a bargain. Sandy

That is a really unique piece. I recently bought an old desk and I am leaving it original, two years ago I would have painted it white but not today. Your desk is really lovely.

hey Ange its gorgeous but sorry if it was mine I would unscew the top fiddly bits & paint the rest white, maybe even sand the top back & estapol it, paint stripper on the fiddly bits (have done this before) & spray paint them... either way its a great find...

Hi Ange! Love it! What a great find! Do you know what kind of wood it's made from? Love that old patina! I would enjoy it as is for awhile..

I bet you are getting so excited about your trip!! I figured I would answer your question about our weather here... Unfortunately we don't get much snow where I'm located in Maryland. (I'm in the South) We did have a rain/sleet/snow mix this evening.. Not cold enough for the snow to accumulate though :( The weather forecasters are predicting a pretty cold winter this year.. With lots of snow.. I'll believe it when I see it! ;)

If you guys ever visit the States.. You are welcome to visit us anytime! We could show you around DC... The White House etc...

I hope you take lots of photos to share with us of NZ!

Hugs & Blessings ~ Teresa

Great potential here Ange! What about giving it that washed light grey look the Scandinavians favour so much.
