I have become quite philosophical whenever something around the house gets broken. I now see it as an opportunity to hunt for a replacement or get creative in repairing the item, which is what I decided to do when a friend recently sat on our glass-topped coffee table and it didn't take the strain, resulting in broken glass.
I contemplated buying a new glass top but after giving the decision some more thought I decided to do something a bit more original.
With the help of my hubbys skill on the end of a saw I came up with this wooden top which I personally think looks fabulous. I feel that if I saw this table in a shop I would just have to have it. So for the costly sum of around $30 we have this new coffe table top.
This is the only shot I have of the table with it's glass top. Excuse my lounge. Due to a lack of storage it has become a dumping ground for all the sofas I plan to recover and sell, apart from the striped couch which I recovered a year ago. (Don't ask me why that one is facing the wrong way!?!?!?!)
Hmmm, I've just noticed the stripes on my sofa don't line up. As soon as I finish this post I will go and flip the cushions over.

Great makeover. The table looks fabulous
I love the table makeover - your new top looks lovely - really love the striped white wood effect and if I saw it in a shop, it would definitely catch my eye :)
I love your makeover...fabulous, love the striped wood, very beachy. I hope your poor friend is ok that sat on the glass top, must have given them a fright and could have been a nasty accident I guess. But I agree it is always good to see the opportunity rather than the dissapointment...and you get extra points for thriftyness, cheers Katherine
Ange, I love it!!! It looks fantastic - what a great hubby you have:) It looks like it cost a whole lot more than $30! Great vision and fabulous result Ange. Wishing you a wonderful week ~ Tina xx

Solid work, though I would put some more colours to the table.
Wow Ange, what a cute table!!! I made one patio table similar to this, but didn't paint in white. Yours looks absolutely amazing. Love it! See ya, Li :-)

Sorry Ange - my visits to blogland have been sporadic and brief - just popping in two at a time;-) Back on track next week I think! LOVE YOUR COFFEE TABLE! Much better than the glass. Every cloud has a silver lining hey!
Oh that's a great table, sleek and functional without being too industrial. I'd buy it like a shot if I saw it for sale.
I love the way your table turned out! Its so fresh and pretty and the price tag is great! Its so fun to recycle to make new again.
This is my favorite of your projects thus far. That table is soooo cool... It's like a hybrid of Pottery Barn beachy and West Elm sleek.
Wow! Nicely done!!
Ange,
I love your new top! It looks fresh and updated. The broken glass certainly turned out to be a happy accident.
