Swedish Gustavian Chair

I love me some Swedish Gustavian Furniture, which is why I adore Loi Thai's blog Tone on Tone.
I picked up 3 great chairs on Ebay recently and decided to try my hand at replicating the Swedish Gustavian look.

I'm loving the finished result!

Cabinet Makeover

I managed to pick up this small cabinet this week and
got to work straight away.
First job was removing all the rodent excrement (gag) and giving a good wipe down.
Next a coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Pure White, then 2 coats
of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Graphite.
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint French Linen to do the stencils.
Lastly a coat of clear wax and a coat of dark wax, new knobs and VOILA!

This picture (below) shows the difference a coat of dark wax can make.

Gorgeous Buffet/Hutch Makeover

I don't tackle very many large projects like this
buffet/hutch, but when I do I am always thrilled with the end result and it makes
the hard work worth the effort.

Here it is in it's original (and very good) condition after 20-something years.

First a coat of Annie Sloan chalk paint in pure white.

Top coat is Provence (Annie Sloan Chalk Paint) plus clear wax and some light distressing.

I added a little dark wax on the distressed areas before using the clear wax, to try and give it a darker
tint.

The finish on the surface is like glass. Such a lovely product to work with.

The owner is planning to finish it with some black iron handles
which will look great.

I am so delighted with the result that I am tempted to drag my own hutch out to the garage
and give it a makeover!!!

Happy Weekend everyone!

Recent Projects

Yikes, is it really that long since I posted here?!?!

I have been busy with furniture painting and recovering of chairs. One thing that has really put a lot more fun back into my projects has been the use of Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan. How good is this paint?!
Here's a lovely desk that I used the Chalk Paint on. I did the base colour in Pure White and the top coat in Paris Gray (my personal favourite).

These chairs (2 of) have turned out just as I imagined and I am so happy with them.

It's good to be busy doing something I love.

Upholstered Headboard

I have just finished this lovely Double bedhead.
When I got it, it was upholstered in pink velvet and looked rather tired.
I would love to write more but I need to get back into the garage with my paintbrush!

Before/After Hutch

I recently finished this hutch. It certainly has a new lease on life don't you think?

BEFORE/AFTER (below)

Now at home with it's owner and decorated beautifully in a coastal style.
