Latest Project

My latest upholstery project is a set of 6 dining chairs, including 2 carvers. I have given these chairs a wash with white paint and, as you can see below, used a pretty, somewhat shabby chic fabric that I bought last year when it was reduced to $5/metre. I knew I could put it to good use and just had to be patient while waiting for the right project t o come along.

Below are the before shots. The chairs were quite nice but the fabric had some staining. They have coil sprung bases and thankfully these were all intact as I have no experience in fixing them.

These 2 images (above and below), were inspiration for this project. I love the contrast of floral and stripe.

Did I mention I love the contrast of the stripes and the floral.
I just need to finish these off with double piping (welting). This will give a lovely professional finish. When I saw the striped fabric I knew straight away it would be perfect, so I wasn't going to let the fact that it was thermal-backed curtain fabric stop me from using it! Besides, the only person that will ever know is the person that covers the chairs next time (oh, and anyone who reads this post, lol)

You have been a busy thing haven't you, Ange! What a fabulous result-that chair looks amazing. You chose an excellent contrasting fabric too. Well done!

Have you got much planned for the weekend? It's the last day of school for the kids today- 3 weeks of holidays-yay! We will be hitting the beach next week. Too cold for swimming but perfect weather for reading and long walks!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

Hi Your chair looks great and what a fun surprise to see the stripe on the back!! I just read your comment on my clothes to room post. By all means do a post on yours. It really was fun to do, I had a blast. I think I will do it again sometime. Let me know when you put your post up, I would love to see what you come up with. I thought it would be a fun event to have others participate in but have done nothing to persue that yet. Thanks for taking time to leave a comment I so appreciate it!! Kathysue

These chairs are crazy gorgeous Ange! I do the same thing. Buy the fabric...and wait...it keeps the furniture hunt interesting.
I think since my chair is slipcovered, I was able to attach the cording the way I did. I made the cording, sewed it to the bottom of the slip, then serged the edges and turned it under.
Could you make the single cording, cut the excess very close, and then sort of glue and shove it in between the seat and wood. I've done that before when the wood sticks out enough to make some sort of "gully" to hide the back of the single cording.
Make sense?? Let me know.

Hi Angela,

You have made my day! The very first follower of my blog and the very first comment posted too! I rang my husband in such a flurry of excitement he thought I was ringing to tell him we had council approval for our house plans! Of course I would love to have you mention my new, modest blog on your well established blog. Mind you, the progress is going to be SLOW if the previous 9 months are any indication. We share a love of home magazines (I too am broke from this obsession) and Hamptons style homes. Still dreaming of mine!
Look forward to following your blog.

Very cool, I wish I was this talented! I think the stripe and the floral look really good together. Oh and re the football, I didn't realise you are a NZer when I first commented. Isn't it a shame we are out of the world cup! We did really well though especially seeing as we were above the former world champs in the pool haha!
