Lamp Makeover/Dining Room

I won 2 (more) lamps on ebay recently and would love to share the before and afters with you. Firstly though, I would like to show you my dining room as it is right now. (Yes, that does imply that there are absolutely no guarantees that it will remain this way for any length of time).

Okay, a sneek peek of the lamps....

So this is our dining/family room. It is not a large space and sometimes I feel like I am trying to crowd too much in but that's usually when it is cluttered with family 'stuff'. When it's tidied up I'm okay with it.
The brown TV cabinet is on my "to paint" list. I may go grey I think.

You may/maynot have noticed that I STILL haven't finished my wall stripes. They should go to the corner. I'm afraid I'm one of those decorators (please tell me I'm not the only one), once I can see how the idea in my head looks in reality, I'm satisfied. That's when I lose my motivation to finish the job. Sadly, I'm not the best finisher.

I love my IKEA jute rug, love it! (BELOW)

So here is one of the lamps before, (ebay $30 the pair).

And after......I would like to put a white band around the top also but I ran out of ribbon. Maybe it would be over-kill, what do you think?

Here they are again, before. The ebay seller was quite possibly the sweetest lady I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her husband, on the other hand, was an old grump. How does that happen??? As I was leaving, I had the feeling that I didn't want to leave her there alone with that man.

And here they are after.
I, personally, am in love with them. They make me smile, alot :o)))))
Only one small problem. I painted the shades and when they are switched on, the brush strokes can be seen. Any advice gratefully accepted. Maybe another
coat of paint.

Angie..everything just looks so fabulous! Love the new lamps...and yes..I think an extra white trim would be over kill..they are perfect as they are..I would have also suggested giving the shades another coat..to hide the brush strokes..otherwise lining the inside of the shade with a wax coated soft cardboard or paper in a similar shade should work. The striped wall looks awesome..and yes...I too am one of those people who's enthusiasm and motivation fizzle out on the jobs that take LONGER to do. Your home is looking just awesome...love it! x

I love the stripes they look awsome, and it looks like you only have one left. You are not the only one to not finish. I like the lamps with only the bottom ribbon. I would hope that another coat of paint would help. Love all the white, let me know how the gray goes. I tried and found out I am not a grey person, just white.

Hi Ange, I am loving the look of your home. It's absolutely gorgeous...and those stripes add another incredible dimension.
The lamps were a great buy and they look really perfect on the sideboard. I like them with the one band of white.

I love those stripes - heavens, don't beat yourself up about never finishing - I don't actually start, I just talk! Love the lamps too... they look expensive....

Hope you're enjoying your early summer - so many Kiwis would kill for that 'winter' - just remember that when you're homesick! A x

The lamps are gorgeous Ange..I like them as they are. Maybe a quick spray paint would hide any brush strokes. No youre not the only one, I always have projects on the go, start, then go onto something else. Eventually I'll go back to them, and my 'list' is always being added to. Your jute rug is divine especially under the white dining table/chairs. Have a lovely week.

I really like the stripes and your new lamps. I totally relate to the losing motivation while doing a DIY. But my DIY never look as good as yours!

I like just the one band of white too. I am also a serial unfinisher, and the annoying thing is that most of the unfinished jobs in my home are so tiny that they wouldn't even take that long but still I leave them infavour of starting the next exciting project that I have dreamt up, lol. Maybe we need help....hired help, lol ;)

Awesome room! I absolutely love it Ange. I'm thinking about getting one of those jute IKEA rugs for my bedroom makeover. Are they good? Maybe you could try spray painting the shades to hide the brush strokes? Not sure if that will work though. That timber sideboard is gorgeous. I love the rustic timber finish. Was it another of your eBay finds?

The room looks so lovely! I love the contrast of the white lamps, gray shades, and brown cabinet. I don't even think you have to paint the cabinet :) The stripes are beautiful, too.

Love coming over here to see what you have been up to...those stripes are going to be great! Something is happening at your old house - like a major rip up of the yard?? I will keep you posted!

love the lamps, great transformation... maybe another coat of paint would solve the lamp shade issues. I too love your Ikea jute rug, and the stripes and the sofa and I think you should leave the chest brown... it actually anchors the room and gives it depth, and is a great contrast to your light floors.

I love your dining room, Ange!! Are you surprised? :) The stripes are fabulous...and your new lamps are so perfect! I have the exact same rug in my living room, and I love it too! And just so you don't feel like you're the only one who doesn't finish jobs.....I'm exactly the same way. I like immediate results, and when I get them, I completely lose my motivation.

Thanks for the comment and I love your lamp makeover. And yes I think you should paint your tv stand grey. Every thing looks wonderful in these rooms.

Hi Ange. What a beautiful room. You must finish that stripe, says the worst finisher-upperer ever! Would using one of those little sponge rollers remove the brush stroke problem? Fantastic job in any case and gorgeous lamps.

They go very well with the rest of your home decor. I really like your dining room wall!! Did you paint it?

Ange those lamps look amazing! I would just leave one stripe as I think they look perfect as they are. Maybe try another coat of paint, or paint in a crisscross pattern so it looks like it was meant to be this way (when lit up). Everything else looks great - love the stripes on the wall and the rug. Have a great weekend. Michelle

The jute rug is so nice. As I was scrolling down I was wondering where you got it, and then you wrote IKEA! Wow.

Pauline Wiles said...

I love your stripes, please do finish them as it should feel so good when you do!
Sorry the lamps are misbehaving... they do look really great, though, and I think one line of ribbon is fine.

Stopping over after seeing your comment on a post of mine...and I spy your master bedroom on the right. I see what you mean about the layout, it is very similar to Isabella's room! All the best with all your projects...Janell

Hi Ange! Your home is beautiful. I love those lamps in the after state. I've painted lampshades and had brush strokes too. I don't know... maybe another coat? I really love your house!
I have a horrible habbit of not finishing projects either. I still have one more piece of wallpaper to put up in the foyer,(about 6 months) I always make 3 of my chair seat covers. Instead of finishing all 4. Although I MADE myself finish the kitchen, and the dining room chairs this time. Oh God...what else? It seems like everything. That's the decorating ADD. I have it soooooo bad! You are soooo not the only one!
