Decorating on a Budget

I have had a couple of great wins on ebay lately. The purpose of mentioning these is not to skite but to let people know that it is possible to decorate your home in a stylish, tasteful manner without breaking the bank.

First was this gorgeous cabinet which I am using to store my upholstery fabrics, magazines and board games.
The seller told me she got it on sale at Harvey Norman's for $900. I paid $155

And then there's this leather office chair. What would you expect to pay for this? I bet your answer wasn't $75!!!! I was so thrilled to get this chair. I had been patiently waiting for the right chair to turn up and it did :o)
I had wondered about recovering it as I want to learn how to do that deep buttoning/tufting technique but it is in such good condition I might wait until it has lived with us for a while. It is stationed at the one and only computer in our household of 5 so I'm guessing it won't be too long before it incurs some wear and tear.

I have heard that a few people are having trouble commenting on my blog. If you want to contact me you are welcome to email me p.grootenboer@aapt.net.au

A big "THANKYOU" to those who visited/commented/followed Tilly's blog. She is thrilled and excited that you did. I have instructed her as to blog etiquette ie responding to comments, so if we can just get her brother off the computer for 5 minutes I'm sure you will hear from her.

Great scores, Ange!

Good on you for schooling Tilly up on the responding to comments rule...I gave up waiting to hear what on earth 'cold rock' was ;) and just googled it...and oh YUM, why have I never heard of this before!

Great buying Ange!
I agree, ebay is only one of many places that you can find bargains these days.
I have scored some great bargains from garage sales recently & I am like most & on a very tight budget.
Thanks for sharing & enjoy your new 'bargains'!

Ooh, I love that first cabinet...and the way you've styled it too. And that chair is the bargain of the century. I think you're right to keep the upholstery for now. It looks great.

Hi Ange,
Those are both such great finds!
The cabinet is awsome!
It's funny, we just got back from the beach in Charleston, SC. We stayed in this awful condo. They had already updated the bathrooms and kitchen with new fixtures and granite, but the living room and bedroom furniture was HORRIBLE! Infact...nasty to sit on.
I kept telling my husband that they could make these rooms beautiful for under $200.00 if they let me do the second hand shopping for them. No reason to rent a place looking like that!
But... we were at the BEACH and that makes everything OK.

That is a very nice armoire Ange. Some baskets on the bottom would be great for storage. Love the vignette you put on top of it!

That is too funny Ange, we bought the buffet and hutch of that is in the back ground from the same people.
Hope we weren't bidding on the same thing..
Paid a little more for it than the lovely cabinet.
Still, very happy with my buy. It too is storing fabrics and work things until I paint it up and it will go in the new kitchen in the new house.

I was so sad to hear of how much you miss NZ.. Do you think you will ever go back? i have heard that it is such a lovely country. Cold, but beautiful!
Hugs to you,
